The artist’s most recent collection of watercolour collages. To make these postcard sized works, Emily has been slow and watchful, studying forgotten corners of her home, elevating small forms in her immediate vicinity. Organic bleeds of watercolour, contrast with sharp cuts of painted paper, which encase the simple and sentimental. Heavily layered, the collaged paper acts as a blanket, gently tucking object of honour into the centre focus. The layers, reminiscent of a swaddled babe, the encasing of a nest Juxtapositions with the minimal aesthetic of a severe yet humble colour pallet. Following the narratives of spring, beings have made an entrance into Emily’s creative practice, accompanying Emily during her stretches of solitude during the severe stages of lock down. With limited resources and unlimited time, Emily has slowed down, appreciating every nook and cranny in which she inhabits, to sit with the small things.
