‘Espaliered girl’ is part human, part tree. Ford often works with concepts such as humour, ambiguities, surrealism and threat. I find this piece very reminiscent of Persephone, it feels that the human is stuck, the way that the arms are stretched out also seems tense and painful. At the same time the tree feels magical and fairytale like, reminding me that everything may not always seem as it appears. Fords work is very inspiring to my own practice and displays how simply and idea can be demonstrated, with a clean and simple set up. The choice of material, bronze does huge favours to the piece, making it seem very realistic in colouring and texture and giving it a weighted feeling.
