Sarah Saunders’ Figurative Sculptures

Sarah Saunders’sculptures are highly stylized and full of character. Their vibrant colours and exaggerated features produce figures which at first appear simplistic and as if they could have come from a child’s mind. But actually the subtle detail in the eyes and position of the hands and the tilt of the head, indicate intricacies and hidden depth. It takes real skill to be able to communicate emotion and thoughts to the viewer by sensitively and deftly altering positioning and the appearance of facial features . I feel I have a lot I can learn from these pieces about conveying more subtle emotions to my audience.
