Amander Shelsher’s Figurative Sculpture

I began looking at artists who created figurative sculptures, particularly in ceramics, in order to gain inspiration from their individual styles and approaches. Amanda Shelsher, an Australian Sculptural Ceramic Artist, creates figures which appear very simplistic, but which are bold and grounded. The use of stark white brings out shadows and the bright, happy colours of the houses, draws attention to them. She uses her work to celebrate miracles of life, domesticity and growth. Themes which have become important to her since the birth of her children. I admire the way she has sculpted the hands and exaggerated them, in order to create the happy, gentle feel of the piece.
