From my stick and hand life drawing studies, I decided to come up with my own designs inspired by the work of Kate Macdowell. I looked back through my sketches and then let the individual flaws and characteristics of the sticks lead me in the drawing of the hands and vice versa with the hand sketches. I enjoyed the flexibility of sketching as I had the potential to make the hands appear more or less obvious if I so wished. However, I feel that the concept of branches turning into hands is rather a ‘used’ idea, but I wanted to experiment with it myself to heighten my drawing abilities and to propel me forwards with some new takes on an old theme. I believe I would like to make these ideas more tangible by bringing them into the 3d world. I feel that sculpting a hand will push my skills further, allowing me to develop new techniques along the way.
